An exciting programme which started in September 2011 aimed at the unemployed. Participants train at their local college and achieve a recognised qualification that will help prepare people for employment. The aim of the ‘Employ Me' programme is to provide a pathway into work by offering employability and vocational skills to the unemployed and economically inactive people of all ages.
The Employ Me Programme has engaged with 150 people across SRC campuses in Armagh, Kilkeel, Lurgan, Newry and Portadown. The programme provides participants with a number of valuable, work-oriented qualifications across the six industry sectors IT Clerical, IT Software, Retail, Hospitality, Welding and CAD. Participants attend on a part-time basis over a 25 week period. Training is also provided in Essential Skills (Literacy and Numeracy), Employability and Careers Information and Guidance
Target Market
Two main target groupings:
- Long-term/short term unemployed, lone parents, male & females, people with disabilities
- Those who have become unemployed due to the recession and therefore require re-skilling
The Employ Me programme is a funded programme allowing participants to study without affecting benefits and offers a contribution towards childcare expenses while attending class.
Participants choose one area of interest from the 6 core pathways of
- Retail
- IT
- Finance
- Engineering
- Hospitality
- Construction
All programmes are delivered on a part-time basis of less the 16 hours per week over 25 weeks. As part of the Employ Me programme every participant has the opportunity to take part in a one day per week 10 week industry placement in their field of study. The Employ Me team arrange the industry placement and mentoring takes place throughout.

Employ Me is Funded by the Department For Employment & Learning (DEL), European Social Fund (ESF) and Southern Regional College (SRC) under priority 1. This is a 3 year programme that will run from 1st April 2011-1st April 2014.
