Georgia on her Way to Becoming Chef of the Year

Southern Regional College student, Georgia Hyland, from Kilkeel, recently won the Northern Ireland heat of the Rotary Chef of the Year competition. Georgia is currently a first year chef student, completing the Diploma in Professional Cookery course at SRC's Newry campus. The competition, for students, aims to develop cookery and food presentation skills, consider healthy eating options, prove their organisational and planning skills and their ability to cope in a demanding situation.

Georgia works part-time in the Kilmorey Arms Hotel in Kilkeel and as a result of growing up in Kilkeel, Georgia has grown up with the abundant supply of fresh fish encouraging her along the career path to becoming a chef.

Georgia is especially interested in the pastry units of the course and produces high quality desserts, practicing at her home constantly. She fully understands contrasting and infusing flavours and putting fresh ingredients into all her dishes. Georgia will now go forward to compete in the All-Ireland heat of the Rotary Chef of the Year awards, which takes place on the 27th February, in Dublin.SRC student Georgia Hyland, who is competing to become Rotary Young Chef of the Year
