ARMAGH STUDENTS WIN LEARNER OF YEAR AWARDS

Outstanding learners have been recognised for their achievements by The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) as being the top Occupational Studies learners in Northern Ireland.

A number of Armagh students were honoured at the event in recognition of their achievement throughout the year in their chosen subject area. The students from the local secondary schools study their occupational studies at Southern Regional College.

Learners of the Year from Armagh were:
Caiomhe McKee, St Catherines College Armagh
Carla McGarvey, St Patrick's High School Keady
Leeann Keys, City of Armagh High School

The Learner of the Year Awards recognise outstanding learner achievement in Occupational Studies throughout Northern Ireland and this year saw SRC win 12 of the 24 awards in partnerships with the schools it engages with in the School Partnerships Programme.

The awards were open to all centres and schools offering qualifications in the categories of Care, Construction, Design, Digital Technology, Engineering, Hairdressing, Beauty and Horticulture.

Assistant Director of SRC, Mr David Vint said: "It is great to see awards like this having a genuine positive influence with local students and schools. It recognises the hard work of Year 11 and 12 students in the studies they undertake at SRC, an environment different from that which many students would experience in the normal school day. The Occupational Studies suite has proved to be a very popular qualification and is offered by SRC in collaboration with partner schools. The qualification allows learners to job sample different occupational areas as a careers tool and provides an insight into different vocationally related areas throughout the world of work."
