SRC Students enter the Dragon's Den

120210_sm_dragons_den.jpgThe heat was on for some SRC students recently as the Schools of Hospitality and Tourism, Construction Skills and Business and Computing battled for top spot in the Dragon's Den grand final.

Each team had five minutes to make a ‘pitch' to the vicious Dragons - Elaine Nesbitt, Ian Kennedy and Caroline McKee.

Over fifty students participated in the ‘Dragons Den Ebay Competition' in which teams were allocated an Apple E-Mac Computer and tasked with selling it on Ebay. The overall aim was for students to gain the highest profit possible. Each team was encouraged to work together using their collective strengths to devise a marketing pitch which would attract potential buyers to purchase their computer.

All three finalist teams were excellent, and particular mention was given to ‘The Blue Dudes' from Construction Skills at Portadown campus who approached the task with an abundance of humour. They were able to successfully work as a team and use each others strengths gaining not only the highest profit for the sale of the computer but also the highest amount of bids

Unfortunately there could only be one winner and many congratulations go to Simon Kennedy's Travel and Tourism students who demonstrated strong entrepreneurial skills. The winning students were awarded with a trophy and gift vouchers from Buttercrane Shopping Centre.

This event was promoted through the Inspire Programme - funded by the Department for Employment & Learning.
