GAA Academy

This academy is aimed at elite performers in Gaelic/Hurling/Camogie who have been involved with underage development squads or who are now playing with inter-county minor, u21 and senior teams. We aim to keep developing skills and also physiological and psychological attributes of students so that when they are given the opportunity to represent their county at a high level, they should be able to adapt well. The academy is supported by the Down County Board, and allows for us to utilise their experienced coaching staff to help deliver key aspects of the games to all our students. The academy now runs alongside the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport course and allows students to gain a nationally recognised qualification while still taking part in their chosen sport.

Golf

A team of four boys took part in the Ulster Schools Match Play Competition held in Dungannon Golf Club. The team was James Armstrong (Armagh Campus), Clark Mc Allister (Newry Campus), Stuart Cochrane (Armagh Campus) and Martin O Hagan (Lurgan Campus). The boys played tremendously well on the day and finished 4th overall out of 33 teams from all over Northern Ireland.

In match play, two players (or two teams) play each hole as a separate contest against each other. The party with the lower score wins that hole, or if the scores of both players or teams are equal the hole is "halved" (tied). The game is won by the party that wins more holes than the other. If you would like to get involved with the golf team contact us.

The same teams also participated in the District Cross Country Championships which were held in Monkstown, Monaghan. The boys' team finished 3rd overall and again James Wright finished highest, placing 6th. Jamie Crooks finished 8th and Eoin Fields finished 12th overall. All three boys successfully qualified for the Ulster Championships. The team are always keen to welcome both newbies and experienced runners to the team
