Under the Government's People and Place Strategy, 36 Neighbourhoods across Northern Ireland have been designated as Neighbourhood Renewal Areas (NRAs).
These communities are experiencing the highest levels of deprivation. The Northern Ireland Neighbourhood Information Service (NINIS) website provides statistical information on these Neighbourhoods.
Under the Department for Communities' Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy, Southern Regional College carried out four research studies with the aim of exploring the learning needs and barriers to participation in learning among the residents in Neighbourhood Renewal areas. As a result of the research, Southern Regional College is running a number of programmes and initiatives to help combat the problems identified in these areas.
