Overview

This course is 75% funded by the Department for the Economy and 25% paid by the employer as part of the Skills Focus Programme. To qualify, your business or social enterprise must have less than 250 employees and you must be based in Northern Ireland and operate for profit.

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Stonemasonry (Construction) follows the stone fixing pathway and has been developed for achievement in a real workplace environment which means the learner needs to be employed to undertake this qualification.

This level 3 NVQ Diploma is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the field of stonemasonry within the construction industry. Participants will delve into the art and science of stonemasonry, learning advanced techniques, principles, and practical skills involved in working with different types of stone and creating exquisite stone structures. This course covers a wide range of topics.

Applicants should be employed in stonemasonry.

The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:

Repairing complex stonemasonry structures in the workplace
Erecting complex stonemasonry structures in the workplace
Setting out complex stonemasonry structures in the workplace
Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area in the workplace
Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace
Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace

Assessment is through written evidence, test papers and on-site assessment.

Successful students may progress to one of the Foundation Degrees in Construction offered at Southern Regional College.

Upon successful completion of the Stonemasonry (Construction) Level 3 NVQ Diploma, participants will have acquired advanced skills and knowledge in stonemasonry. They will be equipped to work independently or as part of a professional team on a wide range of stonemasonry projects. They will have the opportunity to pursue exciting career opportunities in the construction industry, specialising in stonemasonry, restoration, conservation, or architectural stonework.
