Southern Regional College student Carla Mackle from Armagh has been crowned UK Hairdressing Student of the Year 2018 in a prestigious competition for budding hairdressers.
Carla Mackle UK Hairdressing Student of the Year 2018 with lecturer Celine Doran.
Carla, who has recently completed her Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing at the College’s Armagh campus, took to the floor at the Goldwell UK Academy in London to compete against seven other finalists from across the UK. She created a ‘red carpet’ glamour look on her model which ultimately resulted in her being crowned champion.
Carla competed under the guidance of her lecturer Celine Doran who said: “Carla is an inspirational student who is self-motivated and embraces her studies with full vigour. She practices tirelessly to improve her practical skills and this is evident in her practical work and client feedback. She wholeheartedly deserved to win this prestigious title”.
On winning this title, Carla received some fantastic prizes including a day with award winning celebrity professional hairdresser Andrew Barton at his salon in London and a business lunch with L’Oréal Colour Trophy winner Sophia Hilton.
SRC’s Head of School for Hairdressing, Beauty and Sports Studies Elaine Nesbitt said: “We are all so proud of Carla for winning this UK-wide award – just to get through to the finals is a real achievement. Her ‘red carpet look’ was beautiful but the talent on display that day was exceptional. Carla’s obvious flair and talent along with her passion and dedication won through on the day”.
Carla will return to SRC in September to complete her Level 3 Hairdressing at the College’s Armagh campus.
