We look forward to welcoming all our new and returning students to the College for the 2020/21 academic year. In light of COVID-19 we have implemented a number of changes to protect the health and wellbeing of everyone at the College. It is important that we respect and adhere to these new measures. OVERVIEW

Understanding biology is the key to understanding the development of life. Finding cures for diseases, tackling environmental issues and solving crimes through forensics are just some of the important roles a biologist can play in society.

You can expect to develop a wealth of knowledge on cells, human physiology, genetics and the causes of disease providing just a sample of the areas covered.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To study Biology A-Level you will need to have achieved a BB grade in Double Award Science or GCSE Biology (Higher Tier ) grade C or above.

Unit 3 : Practical Skills

PROGRESSION

Students can progress to science subjects in higher education at other higher education institutions or consider SRC’s HE provision including higher level apprenticeships. This subject is suitable for degrees in medicine, nursing, veterinary science or animal care. This can lead on to careers in medical professions such as dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy or pharmaceutical research.

IMPORTANT COURSE & DELIVERY STATEMENT

In light of the continuing Covid-19 situation, Southern Regional College may have to amend the delivery methods for a number of courses for the new academic year, or should the need arise effect a temporary College closure. This may also lead to restrictions when accessing student services. Please be assured that the safety of our students is paramount and as such we will be implementing a range of measures in line with government advice and protocols. We will make all appropriate and reasonable adjustments to maintain the ongoing quality of teaching and learning and our support services.

In accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015, you will be notified of any such changes, the reasons for the changes and any options available to you to avoid such changes having an adverse impact on your future career. All higher education students and applicants should refer to the Consumer Protection page.

CONCESSION

Concession Fees may be available to students enrolling on Further Education courses who are in receipt of any of the following benefits: Universal Credit (net income below £14,000) Guaranteed Pension Credit / Housing Benefit (Rates Rebate) or Rate Relief/ Working Tax Credit (where household income is £16,190 or below/ In-come based Employment and Support Allowance Income Support/ In-come based Jobseekers Allowance/ Republic of Ireland means tested benefit. All exam/material fees must be paid in addition to the concession fee.

Registration, materials and certificate fees (subject to charge by the awarding body) are payable where shown at enrolment. All courses are subject to satisfactory enrolment numbers being achieved and sustained throughout the year. A student will be offered a refund of fees where a course is cancelled by the College or where a student does not attend their course of study. However, a £20 administrative fee will be imposed on a student who is unable to attend a course and does not give the College a minimum of 5 working days' notice before the course commences. A refund is not available to anyone who leaves a course after making one or more attendances.
