This qualification is aimed at you if you are looking to start a career as a beauty therapist. 

The qualification is intended to provide a broad understanding of the beauty industry and the vocational skills and knowledge required. It provides an awareness of the range of jobs and work settings in the sector and will enable candidates to make an informed assessment of their aptitude for work in the sector and to make informed decisions about careers in the sector.


Applicants must be at least 16 years of age on or before 1st of July in the year of proposed entry to course.

Must have a satisfactory level of fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Purchase of kit and uniform will be required.


  •  Working in beauty related industries
  •  Follow health and safety practice in the salon
  •  Client care and communication in beauty related industries
  •  Promote products and service to clients in a salon
  •  Salon reception duties
  •  Provide facial skincare
  •  Remove hair using waxing techniques
  •  Provide manicure treatments
  •  Provide pedicure treatments
  •  Provide eyelash and brow treatments
  •  Apply make-up
  •  Provide nail art
  •  Head massage
  •  Employability unit


1 evening per week for 30 weeks (2 year programme)


You may progress on to a level 3 qualification such as:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Techniques
  • Level 3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up

Alternatively you can seek employment in the industry.

The qualification could lead to a job as a beauty therapist, working in one of the following establishments:

  • beauty salon
  • spa
  • health club
  • hotel spa
  • cosmetic counter within a department store for a product house selling and advising on skin care, make up and body products.

In light of the continuing Covid-19 situation, Southern Regional College may have to amend the delivery methods for a number of courses for the new academic year, or should the need arise effect a temporary College closure. Concession Fees may be available to students enrolling on Further Education courses who are in receipt of any of the following benefits: Universal Credit (net income below £14,000) Guaranteed Pension Credit / Housing Benefit (Rates Rebate) or Rate Relief/ Working Tax Credit (where household income is £16,190 or below/ In-come based Employment and Support Allowance Income Support/ In-come based Jobseekers Allowance/ Republic of Ireland means tested benefit. All exam/material fees must be paid in addition to the concession fee.

Registration, materials and certificate fees (subject to charge by the awarding body) are payable where shown at enrolment. All courses are subject to satisfactory enrolment numbers being achieved and sustained throughout the year. A student will be offered a refund of fees where a course is cancelled by the College or where a student does not attend their course of study. However, a £20 administrative fee will be imposed on a student who is unable to attend a course and does not give the College a minimum of 5 working days' notice before the course commences. A refund is not available to anyone who leaves a course after making one or more attendances.
