Overview

This course is offered as a follow on to the Computerised Bookkeeping Level 1. The Computerised Bookkeeping Level 2 Certificate is an in-depth course designed for individuals who have already completed Level 1 Computerised Bookkeeping, have a basic understanding of bookkeeping and want to further develop their skills in computerised bookkeeping systems. This certificate provides comprehensive training in advanced bookkeeping techniques, data analysis, and financial reporting using industry-leading accounting software.

Throughout the course, participants will expand their knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices. They will delve into more complex topics such as accruals and prepayments, depreciation, bad debts, and provisions. Participants will also explore the concept of trial balances, adjustments, and year-end processes to ensure accurate financial reporting within a computerised bookkeeping system. The programme will also enable students to use Sage software suitable for the production of business accounts.

The Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Bookkeeping is specifically aimed at learners who wish to further their studies of computerised accounting and gain a qualification at Level 2 of the regulated qualification framework.
Students must have already have achieved the IAB Level 1 Award in Computerised Bookkeeping. Evidence of Level 1 achievement must be uploaded to the application portal ahead of the course start date.

The qualification is made up of the following units:

Principles of Computerised Accounting and VAT

Understand the basics of computerised accounting
Understand terms used in accounting
Recognise source documents and understand their purpose
Understand the basics of the VAT system
Understand HMRC VAT rules
Understand the purpose of VAT accounts and the VAT return

Use a Computerised Accounting System

Set up a computerised accounting system
Generate and use source documents
Account for cash sales and sundry income
Process customer receipts and refunds
Process supplier payments and refunds
Process payments through the bank current account
Process petty cash transactions
Reconcile the balance on the bank current account
Prepare and post journal entries
Generate reports

Students will be assessed through an online knowledge test and an examination.

In addition to the course fees, students will be required to pay a £50 IAB Student Membership fee paid directly to IAB. Students will not be eligible to sit the assessment unless this fee is paid.

On successful completion if this level 2, students can progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Computerised Bookkeeping or other accounting advanced bookkeeping courses.

Upon successful completion of the Computerised Bookkeeping Level 2 Certificate, participants will receive a recognised qualification, demonstrating their proficiency in advanced computerised bookkeeping systems. Students may pursue employment opportunities in various sectors, including accounting firms, finance departments, or self-employment as bookkeepers. They may work as bookkeeping supervisors or accounting assistants.
