Overview

Level 3 Award in Working with Children and Young People with Special Needs is designed to provide the practitioner with the skills and knowledge required to enable them to work effectively with children and young people with special needs. Throughout this unit, participants will explore the diverse range of special educational needs and disabilities that young people may experience. They will develop a deep understanding of the legal frameworks, policies, and legislation surrounding SEND provision, ensuring compliance with inclusive education practices.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however learners are expected to have an interest in working with children and young people with special educational requirements.
Learners must also be at least 16 years of age.

Areas covered in this unit:

Understand special needs
Understand factors which affect learning
Understand how to support individuals with special needs
Understand the roles and responsibilities of professionals working in the special needs area
Understand the principles and practice of advocacy

This unit will be internally assessed and externally quality assured through development of coursework.

Grading for this qualification is Pass/Fail.

The OCN NI Level 3 Award in Working with Children and Young People with Special Needs Qualification enables progression into further learning in this area or into employment. Learners may progress to further continuous professional development courses within childcare, early years and special educational needs within the College.

This unit is ideal for those who wish to work as a classroom assistant or early years practitioner.
