Overview

The Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management aims to give practicing and potential first line managers the foundation for their formal development. The course is ideal for individuals who have management responsibilities but no formal training, in addition to those who wish to develop their abilities. It particularly supports practising team leaders seeking to move up to the next level of management and managers who need to lead people through organisational change and other pressures.

This course will be delivered fully online using Microsoft Teams and will be further supported and assessed through the use of common digital tools such as Microsoft Office, online learning resources and online meetings. Prospective learners should therefore have a level of competence and confidence in the use of IT, as well as sufficient IT and internet access to facilitate this.

Entry requirements include:

Businesses participating will be located within Newry, Mourne & Down District Council.
Businesses must have identified progression route(s) and foresee vacancies which can be filled through upskilling existing employee(s).
Employee candidates must be over 18 yrs of age.
Employees must be in full-time or part-time work.
Employees must have an identified progression route within their current employment which supports the requirement of a new skill / qualification.

*The business will be located within Newry, Mourne & Down. The employee will be working within Newry, Mourne & Down, but not necessarily a resident of Newry, Mourne & Down.

The course will cover a wide range of topics, including leadership styles, team dynamics, delegation, performance management, strategic planning, and change management. Participants will learn how to set clear goals, establish effective communication channels, build and maintain high-performing teams, and guide individuals toward achieving organisational objectives.

Participants will also gain knowledge in organisational behaviour, ethics, and the legal aspects of leadership and management. They will learn about employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, conflict resolution, and how to create a positive and inclusive work environment that fosters productivity and innovation.

Understand how to motivate a team to improve performance
Understand how to establish an effective team
Understand how to lead effective meetings

Assessment is completed through assignments which are submitted online.

The Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management can be used as a progression route to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (pending other criteria are satisfied).

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded the Leadership and Management Level 3 Award. This recognised qualification demonstrates a strong foundation in leadership and management principles and practices. It is valued by employers across various industries and can open doors to a wide range of leadership roles and career advancement opportunities.
