Information for Applicants

The course you have applied for involves working with children, young people and vulnerable adults. In order to assess applicant suitability to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults, is our policy to ask for a criminal record check to be carried out by AccessNI.

AccessNI applications will be processed once you have been accepted onto your chosen course of study. You are not required to complete an independent AccessNI application in advance of the programme start date.

Southern Regional College requires checks to be completed at an 'Enhanced' level. An enhanced check shows an individual’s full criminal history including spent convictions, unspent convictions, cautions, cases or investigations pending and any other material considered by police to be relevant to the post.

Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar a student from studying at Southern Regional College.

Information received will be treated confidentially and we will discuss it with you before a final decision is reached. After the decision is made, the information will be destroyed in line with the College’s Data Retention and Disposal Schedule.

The College is fully committed to carrying out the criminal records check in accordance with the AccessNI Code of Practice.

Required Documentation

You will be required to bring the following documents to the College Registration Day in August. We will notify you of the date and time to attend closer to the time.

Birth Certificate & Photographic ID

  • These documents are now required as part of the AccessNI online application process that will be completed in College.
  • In preparation, please locate these documents so you have them ready.
  • If you do not have a birth certificate, you can apply for a new one with the General Register Office (NI). Apply well in advance of summer so we are ready to process your application when you arrive.
  • The photographic ID must be either a valid passport, provisional driving licence or a yLink card.

A yLink card can be obtained at no cost and can be applied for on the Translink website.

Alongside your birth certificate and photographic ID, you will need to bring additional documents to complete the ID checks. Please view the list of acceptable documents.

Daycare Settings

If you are going to a daycare setting, additional Social Services forms will be required. This process takes considerably longer so please contact your appointed Technical Support Office (TSO) for the relevant forms.
