Overview

This course provides students with the understanding and practical application of how to carry out the assessment of learners. The certificate is designed for practitioners who assess the achievement of competence and non-competence in a work environment and in vocational related situations.

The duration of the course is 24 weeks with an 8.5 hour weekly commitment. Independent study by the learner is facilitated in College through blended learning and one-to-one tutor support.

The course will comprise of 8 compulsory 2 hour (evening) face-to-face workshops, every 4-5 weeks from September to April. Attendance at these workshops is mandatory.

Candidates undertaking this certificate must:

Provide assessment of at least 2 learners within their organisation.
Have suitable qualifications for the awarding body they are assessing with.
Produce evidence of qualifications and recent CPD (Continuing Professional Development).

In addition to this, learners should be occupationally competent within the subject area they wish to assess. Candidates must attend an information session at SRC and provide all necessary documentation before they can be enrolled on the course.

Modules covered:

Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
Assess occupational competence in the work environment
Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

Students will be assessed through the completion of a class test, compilation of a portfolio of evidence, observation of the assessment process and recorded professional discussion.

On successful completion of this course, learners may be able to progress to the Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Process and Practice.
