Overview

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introductory teaching qualification that has been developed to give learners the opportunity to:

Develop knowledge related to teaching and learning
Develop skills in teaching and learning
Achieve a nationally recognised level 3 qualification
Develop their own personal growth and engagement in teaching and learning

Achieving the Level 3 Award in Education and Training will provide sufficient evidence that the learner has obtained the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning sessions in a variety of teaching or training contexts.

This introductory, knowledge-based teaching qualification has no minimum teaching practice requirement. Therefore, it may be undertaken by individuals who are not in a teaching role. However, there is a minimum requirement to take part in micro-teaching.

It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, including:

Individuals not currently teaching or training
Individuals currently teaching and training, including those who have just begun or are about to begin
Individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification providing an introduction to teaching

There is no requirement for learners to have teaching practice in place nor will they need any previous knowledge or experience of teaching adults. However, all learners must be over the age of 19 and they must have an idea of a subject they would like to teach. This can be based on their current or previous job, or perhaps related to a hobby or particular interest they have. Learners are responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate qualifications and/or experience in their chosen subject area.

In most cases, learners wishing to complete the BTEC Award are not in a teaching role and are looking for a qualification without a minimum teaching practice requirement. Some may have recently started in a teaching role and are looking for a short qualification to support their development.

This BTEC Award is also appropriate for individuals who are currently working as assessors and wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.

It is recommended that learners wishing to undertake this qualification should be proficient in English, Maths and ICT.

Modules will include:

Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training
Understanding Assessment in Education and Training

All units contain centre devised assessments and will include individual and group assignments as well as micro-teaching preparation.

Learners can progress to the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (provided by the awarding body), or the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (provided by the awarding body).

Learners can also progress to the Assessor's Award provided at SRC.

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training offers an introduction to teaching in the learning and skills sector and on successful completion of the course will provides lots of career opportunities.
