Overview

Exciting new apprenticeship programme - for employed childcare practitioners in private early years settings.

The Children's Care, Learning and Development (CCLD) Level 3 Diploma Apprenticeship is a one year comprehensive full time qualification designed for individuals who are passionate about working with children and aspire to pursue a rewarding career working with children up to the age of 5 years 11 months. It is suitable for those who work in an early years setting and wish to progress to work at an unsupervised level.

This apprenticeship offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills development, confirms competence and is approved as a required qualification for all new early years practitioners for registration and regulatory requirements in Northern Ireland.

This qualification aims to:

Focus on the study of children’s care, learning and development in Northern Ireland through the completion of CACHE Level 3 CCLD (Northern Ireland) Diploma
Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills in the completion of a minimum of 600 hours work based learning
Improve employability with incorporation of Essential Skills Literacy, Numeracy and ICT

To successfully complete the apprenticeship, applicants must achieve the following Essential Skills qualifications as part of the apprenticeship or already hold a recognised equivalent:

Application of Number at Level 2
Communication at Level 2
Information and Communication Technology at Level 2

However, any qualifications you already have are assessed against the framework requirements and may result in an exemption from the above.

To be eligible to enter ApprenticeshipsNI 2021 funded Level 2 / Level 3 apprenticeship provision, a person must meet all of the following criteria:

Have attained the upper limit of Compulsory School Age:
1. A 16 year old who is entitled to leave school after the statutory leaving date of 30 June, or a 17 year old who leaves school/Further Education (FE) College during the month of June, will be permitted to enter ApprenticeshipsNI 2021 from the first Monday in July.
2. A school leaver/FE College leaver who is 17 years old and who leaves before 1 June can be admitted to ApprenticeshipsNI 2021 at any time after leaving school or College.
Be either an existing employee in a new job role that requires a substantial amount of learning and skills development, or a new employee in (or about to take up) a permanent paid employment offer, including a specific start date as detailed on the Delivery Agreement and confirmed by the employer.
Be employed by a company that has a base in Northern Ireland and is registered as an employer with HMRC and be contracted to work a minimum of 21 hours per week (which includes day release/off-the-job directed training) with one employer. Directed training must be paid as part of the apprentice’s contracted hours.
Applicants to this course must have achieved a CACHE Level 2 Diploma Children's Care Learning and Development equivalent
Have the potential to successfully complete all the requirements of the appropriate Level 2/Level 3 apprenticeship framework.
Meet any health requirements specific to the occupation of their choice.
Have achieved any necessary entry academic qualifications (e.g., GCSEs) determined by the relevant sector for the apprenticeship and approved by the Department.
Pass any entry tests specified by the relevant sector/employer and approved by the Department.
Applicants with a previous level 2 or 3 qualification in the same occupational area may not be eligible for participation in a similar occupational area at the same level. This will require approval by the Department.

Applicants to this particular course must also:

Provide a reference from current employer/academic setting.
Undergo initial assessment against the requirements of the qualification, and this must be documented. An individual learning plan can then be produced.
Complete an Access NI check and additional vetting as required per setting i.e. medical, reference checks and social service checks. Applicants and learners will be subject to the Professional Suitability and Fitness to Practise Policy.

CACHE Level 2 Employment Rights and Responsibilities

Context and principles for the early years sector
Communication and partnership working
Safeguarding children
Keeping children safe, healthy and well
Support children’s personal care and nutrition
Supporting children’s development
Supporting children’s play opportunities and experiences of play
Contribute to the support of children with disabilities and/or special needs
Understand the needs of children and young people who are vulnerable and experiencing poverty and disadvantage
Support children with learning disabilities
Support the learning and development of children with health needs

Essential Skills:

Application of Number – Level 2
Communication – Level 2
Information and Communication Technology – Level 2

This qualification is internally and externally assessed and quality assured through a portfolio of evidence. Assessment includes written evidence, presentations, reflective discussions and observations of practice and exams for essential skills.

Students are required to successfully achieve the competency and knowledge-based qualification to secure this full qualification.

Upon successful completion of apprenticeship, learners may be eligible to apply for study in a related subject area at higher level. This may include, Level 3 Extended Diploma, Level 5 Leadership and Management and further professional development programmes within the College.

Upon successful completion of the Children's Care Learning and Development Level 3, participants will be equipped with the foundational skills and knowledge required to pursue further qualifications or seek positions in the early childhood education and care sector. This may include roles such as room supervisors, team leaders or deputy management roles.
