Overview

The aim of this course is to enable the learner to understand how to secure computer networks, understand cyber security from both defensive and offensive perspectives and how to implement and manage the security of computer networks from an industry perspective.

This course is 75% funded by the Department for the Economy and 25% paid by the employer as part of the Skills Focus Programme. To qualify, your business or social enterprise must have less than 250 employees and you must be based in Northern Ireland and operate for profit.

Applicants should have achieved:

At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics at Grade C or above (please upload official certificates to the SRC application portal)
Applicants would need to have robust IT skills and have a related Level 3 ICT based qualification or be employed in a job/sector that they are involved with Cyber Security and its real-world applications.
Ideal candidates would have completed a Level 4 Cyber Security qualification. This qualification builds the skills and knowledge acquired from the Level 4 Certificate in Cyber Security.

Priority will be given to applicants who have completed the Level 4 Certificate in Cyber Security

The objectives of the qualification will cover the following areas in relation to cyber security:

Computer security technology and principles management tools
Software security & trusted systems
Cryptographic algorithms & network security
Management issues

This course will be assessed via coursework.

The OCN NI Level 5 Certificate in Cyber Security will enable learners to progress to higher level qualifications in the areas of information technology and/or cyber security.
