Overview

The Effective Coaching and Mentoring Level 5 Certificate will provide learners with the required knowledge, skills and understanding in order to effectively coach or mentor others within an organisational context. It is ideal for managers and those with significant responsibility for effective coaching and mentoring as part of their daily role within an organisational context. It is also suitable for individuals who wish to move into a development role or start a career as a freelance coach or mentor.

Throughout the course, participants will explore the core principles and practices of coaching and mentoring. They will study areas such as coaching models, communication skills, active listening, questioning techniques, goal setting, feedback delivery, and establishing trust and rapport. Participants will gain insights into the psychological and emotional aspects of coaching and mentoring relationships and develop a deep understanding of the ethical considerations and boundaries involved.

The Level 5 Certificate covers both individual and team coaching and mentoring. Participants will learn techniques for coaching individuals to overcome challenges, enhance performance, and achieve personal and professional goals. They will also explore strategies for mentoring individuals by providing guidance, wisdom, and support based on their own experience and expertise. Participants will gain an understanding of the unique dynamics and skills required to coach and mentor teams, fostering collaboration, and achieving collective success.

The over-riding consideration in admitting applicants to this course, is evidence that the learner is likely to be able to complete the course satisfactorily.

Applicants must undertake 18 hours of coaching/mentoring in a workplace as part of qualification.
Applicants should have achieved a level 3 qualification through the completion of A-Levels, National Awards, Access or other alternative approved qualifications.
Applicants will be required to undertake an interview to assess whether the learner has any specific training needs, support and guidance needed, or any previous relevant qualifications or learning.
Please note that applicants progressing to higher education courses at Level 4 and above in the College or UK Universities may require a specific GCSE/ A-Level profile. In some cases, the Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy may not be a suitable alternative to a GCSE. It is the responsibility of the applicant to check each University’s progression requirements before enrolling on a course at the College.

This course is funded through the Skill Up. All applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before the course start date.
Applicants must be eligible to work in Northern Ireland.
Applicants must be ‘settled’ in Northern Ireland, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years; or are a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.

Candidates are only permitted to complete a maximum of two free courses at a time.

Understanding the Skills, Principles and Practice of Effective Coaching and Mentoring within an Organisational Context
Undertaking Effective Coaching or Mentoring within an Organisational Context
Undertaking an Extended Period of Effective Coaching or Mentoring within an Organisational Context
Reviewing Own Ability as a Coach or Mentor within an Organisational Context

This qualification will be assessed through assignment, portfolio, and a reflective journal (18 hours of evidence of coaching is required for the portfolio).

This qualification will provide progression opportunities to other qualifications such as the ILM Level 5 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Leadership and Management and the ILM Level 7 Certificate or Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

Upon successful completion of the Effective Coaching and Mentoring Level 5 Certificate, participants will have the knowledge and skills to apply coaching and mentoring principles in various professional and personal contexts. They will be equipped to work as internal or external coaches and mentors, supporting individuals and organisations in achieving their objectives. Participants may find opportunities to work in human resources, leadership development, talent management, or as independent coaching and mentoring practitioners.
