Overview

The LEAP Personal and Social Development programme helps candidates embrace personal, social, health, citizenship and ICT, and enables them to develop skills that prepare them for independence and working life. It offers ways of supporting young people in becoming confident individuals who are physically, emotionally and socially healthy, being responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society and embrace change, managing risk together with their own wellbeing, as well as introducing them to new activities and personal challenges.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age on or before 1st July 2026.
Applicants will be asked to provide a previous statement of educational needs (SEN) or assessment and have a record of any prior attainments. Applicants that do not have a SEN statement will be assessed prior to being offered a place on the course.
An interview will play an important role in the selection of candidates onto certain programmes.
Applicants must be well motivated and have completed a programme of general education to key stage 4 (completion of compulsory education) which would enable the applicant to benefit from and succeed on the course.
Attendance at Individual or Group Pre-Entry Advice Sessions (IPEAS or GPEAS) will play an important role in the selection of candidates in all courses.
An applicant applying for entry level or level 1 courses would normally have:

A specific learning difficulty and/or disability; and/or
Evidence of experiencing other barriers to education.

Using Technology in the Home and Community
Working as Part of a Group
Preparation for Work

Learners will complete enough units to reach the required number of credits for the entry level 2 awards and will be assessed through completion of a portfolio based on the activities and work completed.
