The local engineering sector is going from strength to strength, with an increased demand for fabricators and welders and in September 2021, SRC enrolled a record number of apprentices onto the Fabrication and Welding Apprenticeships at Armagh Campus!
Pictured are some of the Year 1 Level 2 Fabrication & Welding apprentices, all of whom are employed by local engineering firms.
The engineering facility at Armagh is kitted out with equipment matched to industry including plasma cutting process (extraction table and handheld) and 24 new multi-process welding machines, which can be used in MIG, MMA and TIG welding. These machines will also be used across all College campuses.
The investment in this new equipment supports the practical aspects of the course delivery to ensure each apprentice is equipped with the skills needed to function in the fast moving, multi-skilled engineering industry. Apprentices will also learn about high standard in areas of health and safety and engineering fitting techniques.
