Despite January’s rain clouds, masses have turned out in force at Southern Regional College’s (SRC) January Open Evenings. Running over two weeks from Tuesday 20th January to Monday 2nd February 2026, the events attracted large numbers of secondary school pupils, parents and adult returners, all keen to explore the wide range of education and training opportunities available across the College.

Each campus opened its doors on a designated evening, offering visitors the chance to experience SRC’s facilities first-hand and speak directly with teaching staff, support teams, and current students.

The Open Evening programme of events started in Portadown, before visiting Newry East & West campuses, with a dedicated apprenticeship focused open evening at the College’s Greenbank campus. The roadshow then visited the towns and campuses in Armagh and Lurgan, before visiting Banbridge on Monday 2nd February after the original event was rescheduled due to Storm Chandra. Overall, the College welcomed 3,888 visitors through its door across the two weeks of Open Evening events.

The key message arising from this year’s Open Evenings was education is accessible to everyone, with study options available at ‘Your Path, Your Place, Your Place’. Within the College, there are courses start from entry level (level 0/1) up to level 7 postgraduate qualifications, with full-time and part-time study options available. While each campus delivers a wide range of subjects, several also specialise in key subject areas.

Mrs Lee Campbell, Principal & Chief Executive of Southern Regional College commented:

“Our Open Evenings are about showing people that there is a place for everyone at Southern Regional College, regardless of age, background, or previous experience. It was incredibly encouraging to see so many young people and adult learners take the time to explore their options and engage with our staff.”

“We are proud to offer flexible, high-quality educational pathways that allow learners to build skills, confidence and qualifications at every stage of their journey. The strong turnout witnessed across all six campuses reinforces Southern Regional College as a place where opportunity leads to progression.”

Applications for places on the College’s post GCSE, full-time and apprenticeship courses opened on Tuesday 3rd February at 12 noon.
